Information about the surgical intervention and knee replacement

The skin will be depilated, washed and disinfected. The skin on the front of the knee will be incised on a length of 15 to 20cm. The joint will be opened as carefully as possible and only to an absolutely necessary extent. Guided by high-precision saw templates, the bony parts of the joint will be shaped precisely to the components of the implant. The surgeon corrects any malalignment of the leg axis and optimally balances the joint capsule and ligaments, as this is crucial for both the stability and the longevity of the implant. He will anchor the implant components with or without cement, depending on the general condition and the bone needs quality of the patient

During the operation, the leg axis, the mobility and the guidance of the joint will be verified several times. After the insertion of the artificial joint, the surgeon will carefully suture the wound layer by layer. A thin plastic tube drain will be placed into the wound to prevent healing disturbances by any excess blood (sanguineous infiltration into the joint or the wound). After the operation, the surgeon completes your personal “prosthesis passport”, which includes the important data about the “new” knee joint.
